Use the links in the box on the right to discover some of the advantages of studying at Deakin

Studying at Deakin

At Deakin, we provide students with a wide range of support services to ensure that they gain the most out of their time here in Australia, while studying in a relevant, innovative and responsive environment.

Location

Deakin University is located in Victoria, Australia. Victoria has Australia's second-largest population with more than 4 million people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. It is a place of great contrasts, with ocean beaches and mountain ranges, deserts and forests, volcanic plains and vast sheep and wheat farms.

The state has long been regarded as the cultural centre of Australia, with its historic architectural elegance that characterises Melbourne, Victoria's capital city, and its regional cities.

Victorians combine a strong cultural tradition with a contemporary and relaxed lifestyle, a distinct sense of community and a passionate interest in sport. Victoria is also the major centre of education and research in Australia.

Services for international students

Deakin is committed to providing its students with all the support, advice and encouragement you may need prior to and throughout your studies at Deakin.

As an international student, you will have access to a wide range of services, facilities and support designed to make your time at Deakin more rewarding and productive, both academically and personally. These services include:

Free airport reception

Students arriving at Deakin University for the first time can be met free of charge at Melbourne Airport and taken either to the campus or their accommodation.
To receive this service, you will need to complete the relevant section on the Notification of Arrival form (999kb).

Temporary accommodation

Deakin can organise temporary accommodation for students who are arriving in Australia for the first time while they look for permanent accommodation.
To receive this service, you will need to complete the relevant section on the Notification of Arrival form (999kb).

International Registration and Enrolment Program

Deakin runs a compulsory International Registration and Enrolment Program at the start of each semester. This program is a vital introduction to life as a student and presents information that will help you to succeed at Deakin. An important part of this program is formal enrolment in your course.

Follow-up program

Deakin’s Follow-up program complements the International Registration and Enrolment program. New students are invited to attend group and individual meetings to discuss issues of interest and ensure they are adjusting well.

International Student Advisers (ISAs)

International Student Advisers are available on each campus and coordinate the support services for international students. ISAs are dedicated to the needs of international students and are committed to helping you achieve your full potential. They are your first point of contact on many issues, including student and work visas.

Peer Support program

Deakin University operates a Peer Support program on each campus especially for international students. Peer Support students are there to help you with the things you need to know when you first arrive, such as shopping, banking and local transport. Peer Support students are current Deakin students, so they understand exactly what you’re going through. Many new friendships are made through this program and during the semester this informal support network is always there to provide assistance.

In addition, you can enjoy a wide range of services and facilities at Deakin, including academic skills support, career advice, personal counselling, disability support services and more.
The Division of Student Life also provides a wide range of services which all students can access during their time at Deakin.

Campuses

Deakin University has campuses in Melbourne, Geelong (two) and Warrnambool, all of which offer a distinctive and unique living and learning experience. Each campus offers a wide range of services and facilities that all students can enjoy, and reflects the student-centred approach for which Deakin is renowned.

You can take a virtual tour of each campus to find out what each campus looks like or check out what's happening at the Melbourne Campus at Burwood on our live webcam!
